Whenever I hear an adventurer say that they "Don't have any good heals, they are concentrating on damage" or that they "Do crappy damage, they are concentrating on heals", I have to laugh. They just don't understand the profession at all.

The Adventurer profession is a unique blend between healing and damage. You are going to want to concentrate on both fully. ALWAYS try and keep 'Bio. Met.' capped and 'Meta. Met.' not far behind. By the same token, Keep your weapon skills as high as possible as well. If you have to neglect a skill, make it something other than these two things.
